Robbinsville’s Rich History

Robbinsville is one of New Jersey’s newest town names attached to one of its older townships. Formed in 1859 when independent-minded residents split from East Windsor, it spent nearly 150 years as Washington Township, one of five by that name in the state. To end the confusion, residents voted on November 6, 2007, by a margin of 1,816 to 693 to rename the township Robbinsville, after its historic village center, with the change taking effect on January 1, 2008. The award-winning Town Center, a walkable mix of homes, shops, and a village green built by Sharbell beginning in 2005, gave the fast-growing township a true downtown to match its new name.
